Travel Classics West 2011

Vancouver Island Press Trip

4 nights/5 days

Day One

This morning head to Vancouver Island via BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. From there it's a three hour drive across the island to the West Coast surf town of Tofino. Enroute, stop for lunch at the Coombs Country Market, which is famous for its "goats on the roof." Arriving in Tofino late afternoon, check in to your beachfront accommodations and enjoy some free time to enjoy the resort and stroll the beach before dinner. Tonight head into town for a casual dinner at SoBo - originally conceived as a food truck, this restaurant is known for its simple, fresh dishes and relaxed atmosphere.

Day Two

Today it's time to get some fresh air! After breakfast you'll have the choice between taking a whale watching tour, or surf lessons. Head back to the hotel to refresh, before enjoying lunch downtown. This afternoon you can use your time to explore the surf shops, independent businesses, bakeries and galleries of Tofino; or visit the Tofino Botanical Gardens. Located at the edge of the Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino boasts an ecological diversity that will leave you amazed. Tonight, head back to the hotel for a fireside cocktail before enjoying dinner at the resort.

Day Three

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and head towards Vancouver Island's Cowichan Valley. The area receives the most sun of any part of the island, and is therefore home to most of Vancouver Island's wineries and many producers. While in the area, visit farms, wineries and other artisan food producers, with lunch enroute. In the late afternoon, arrive in Victoria, and after checking in to your hotel on the historic Inner Harbour, walk to heralded new local restaurant, Ulla's, for dinner.

Day Four

This morning and through to the early afternoon, enjoy free time to explore Victoria, British Columbia's capital city, and an arts and culture hub at the tip of Vancouver Island. You'll be provided with sightseeing passes for spots including the Royal BC Museum, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and Craigdarroch Castle. Those seeking retail therapy will love exploring the city's Government, Fort and Lower Johnson streets, along with the Canada's oldest Chinatown. Later in the afternoon enjoy afternoon tea while also learning about pairing tea with food. Tonight it's time for a late dinner at Brasserie L'Ecole, one of Victoria's classic restaurants showcasing local, seasonal cuisine.

Day Five

After breakfast check out of your hotel and transfer to the world-famous Butchart Gardens, a stunning floral display and a National Historic Site. After lunch at the gardens, transfer by boat or plane back to Vancouver and onwards to home.
