Travel Classics International 2012

Keynote Speaker

June 7-10, 2012 in Cardiff, Wales
Ken Budd Ken Budd is executive editor of AARP The Magazine, the world's largest circulation magazine with 34 million readers. Since 2009 the magazine has won prizes for print and online material at the National Magazine Awards, the Folio Excel Awards, and the Min Editorial and Design Awards. Ken has written for such publications as Smithsonian and The Washington Post, and has appeared over 60 times on TV and radio, including the Today show, The Early Show, ABC News Now, and Martha Stewart Living Radio.

Ken is also the author of the upcoming memoir "The Voluntourist: A Six-Country Tale of Love, Loss, Fatherhood, Fate, and Singing Bon Jovi in Bethlehem" (HarperCollins, 2012). A mix of wry wisdom and raw honesty, the book follows Ken's journey as a global volunteer as he struggles to accept his father's death and his own childless life. Ken worked at a special needs school in China, a children's home in Kenya, and a climate-change study in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, along with volunteer stints in New Orleans, Costa Rica, and the West Bank. He is donating all of his earnings from The Voluntourist to the places where he volunteered.
