Adam Pitluk is an award-winning journalist
and the author of Damned To Eternity
and Standing Eight, both books critically
acclaimed and studies of the human condition.
He is currently the executive editor
of American Way, the in-flight magazine of
American Airlines, and the director of art
and editorial for Celebrated Living and AA
NEXOS magazines, premium class and
Spanish/Portuguese magazines of
American Airlines, respectively.
Prior to joining American Airlines fulltime,
Adam was a reporter for Time magazine
for seven years. He was also a reporter
for People magazine from his days in
New York, where he covered celebrity
news. Adam is the former senior editor of Spirit magazine, the in-flight magazine
of Southwest Airlines, and the former features editor of Boys' Life magazine. He
was a reporter for Court TV and a former staff writer for Village Voice Media.
Adam was an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Texas at
Arlington, where he taught reporting and editing, and is currently an adjunct professor
teaching magazine journalism at the University of North Texas.
Since becoming editor of American Way in 2008, the magazine has won the
Magnum Opus Award for Best Travel Magazine and Best All-Around
Transportation Publication; the Writers-Editors Network International Writing
Competition for nonfiction; the North American Travel Journalists Association Best
In-Flight Magazine award; and the Western Publishing Association Maggie Award
for Best Travel & In-Transit Publication/Consumer.
Adam has a bachelor of journalism from the University of Missouri and a master
of science from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He also
attended Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (currently on leave). Originally
from Cleveland, Ohio, he now lives in Dallas, Texas.
