Christchurch Re-imagined
Sunday May 4 - Thursday May 8

registration
Christchurch, New Zealand's "garden city", is preparing to move into a new era that will build on its colonial heritage to create an accessible low-rise modern city framed by green spaces. Just north of Christchurch, among spectacular coastal alpine scenery lies Kaikoura - an eco-tourism jewel.

Sunday

Just over an hour's flight from Auckland will have you touch down in the evening after the Travel Classics conference concludes. Check into one of the newest re-opened hotels in the city.

Monday
5 May

You will have a full day to re-introduce yourself to Christchurch. Take in some of the city's most iconic experiences - a relaxing punt down the Avon River and a tour around the city to see the changes and deconstruction happening as a result of the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. In the afternoon, head up the Christchurch Gondola to a stunning 360-degree view over the city and harbor to the Southern Alps and beyond. Enjoy dinner at one of Christchurch's favorite restaurants, situated in the heart of the award-winning Botanic Gardens.

Tuesday
6 May

See some of the new and creative innovations that have "popped up" around the city - from shopping malls and bars made from shipping containers, to an architectural cardboard cathedral and historic buildings that have taken on new life. Christchurch is a resilient and positive city and today you get the chance to meet some of its people and hear the stories behind their strength and determination to invest not only their money, but their lives and families into this city.

Wednesday
7 May

Where the Alps meet the ocean... drive up to the magical township of Kaikoura. Meet your local Maori hosts and look into the past through their legends about how the world came to be. Visit historic places around Kaikoura and walk through native forests where you will learn about the plants that the traditional Maori used in their everyday lives. Speaking of trees - remember your tree hut when you were young? Tonight you get to stay in one, albeit a luxury version at Hapuku Tree Huts and Lodge, where you will enjoy a delicious dinner of local seafood.

Thursday
8 May

No trip to Kaikoura is complete without witnessing some of Kaikoura's marine life - such as dolphins, seabirds, orca, seals and the impressive sperm and humpback whales. Before leaving, we'll stop at a natural waterfall and pool where baby seal pups frolic and play. Head back to Christchurch airport for your departing flight which will take you back to Auckland.
